SPACELAB have worked closely with SCENTRE Design Group on the upgrades to important frontages of their Westfield shopping centres in Belconnen and Woden. Both commissions have strong landscape elements that were integrated into an urban setting.

The existing landscape character of Bradley Street was defined by the mature street trees providing a setting for a new retail strip that will establish the expansion as if it had always been there.

The Belconnen shopping centre has a strong urban feel from the Lathlain and Cohen Street entry. The entry was delivered with the landscape as a key placemaking element - a feature to announce your arrival at the shopping centre.

SPACELAB have also worked with Transport Canberra and City Services (TCCS) to provide services for the refurbishment of their two local shopping centres at Spence and Kambah.

The key drivers for refurbishment of the centres were improved amenity and access around the centres.

At Kambah, working with the existing landscape and providing subtle overlays/insertions were the key drivers. Also the removal of existing decking, additional tree planting, accessible ramps and refurbished/new street furniture.
