SPACELAB were engaged by the Collins Caddaye Architect’s to provide a play space infill to an existing area within the Good Shepherd
Primary School grounds.
SPACELAB consulted with the Good Shepherd Primary School staff and parents group as part of the project to gather ideas of what
they wanted to see incorporated into the play space. From these sessions, SPACELAB developed a conceptual sketch plan and a series
of precedents. The project involved providing a varying range of spaces including:
• Objects that promoted physical play in the form of climbing and balance;
• Musical interaction via different play ‘instruments’;
• Outdoor learning spaces; and
• Artistic interaction involving chalk ‘cubbies’ and items to be painted as part of the student's learning programs.
The play space has been well received by staff, students and parents. Key factors in the project's success included:
• Delivery of a project within a tight timeframe with limited budget.
• Satisfying a brief from multiple different users/stakeholders.
